So I was minding my own business watching Bath Crashers when I got a funky text reportedly from Discover to call a number for fraud prevention. So I came upstairs to get my card (it's been in my desk drawer for about 2 months or so as I rotate them), go online to their website to see if I can confirm the number. When I log in I get told to call the fraud prevention team & am unable to view anything but my last statements. Also get an email that looks like all of their official emails asking me to call the same number in the text. Still suspicious I call the number on the back of my card but get transferred to fraud prevention right away. I verify that I did not just make a $95 purchase at Target & then get to speak with a very nice rep from Phoenix about how my card has been compromised, someone up in NY (2 cities or towns I had never heard of) was out shopping with my number. So my account is now closed, a new card will be issued, I'm to set that up with a new username & password, charges will be removed, etc. I've never had a card compromised before. I feel grateful to Discover for catching it so quickly & notifying me 6 ways from Sunday. I will be pulling my credit reports & possibly changing all my usernames/passwords. I just watched Identity Thief too. Maybe that jinxed me. :)
