I've eyeballed various shorting strategies for Microsoft and it's so hard to come up with a viable strategy that gets a significant return. Most shorting strategies rely on short term knowledge and I'm really bad at short term. For example, I knew Windows 8 was going to be a mess and Surface was going to be a disaster... but if I'd shorted Microsoft when they were released, I'd have broken even at best. Buying puts now? For when? 2015? There are a lot of investors who are willing to turn a blind eye to Microsofts failings so long as the dividends keep flowing.

Unless there are some big changes at Microsoft, things will melt down eventually, the problem is timing it.
