I've read some things about Scottrade but haven't opened an account.
Any opinion?

IIRC they do a good job, but I don't recall ever doing any business with them.

What about Dollar General as a drip investment? Any experience?

I've no experience with Dollar General so can't really say one way or the other.

One word of warning; just because I like a company doesn't mean it's a good stock for me to hold in my portfolio. Example: I love Costco! I love to shop at Costco! I can't think of any store I like more!

But Costco's dividend yield is only .99%

A dividend yield of .99% doesn't fit in with my dividend earning aspirations so I shop and Costco but don't buy their stock.

Oh, one more thing, some others have chimed in on this thread with their recommendations. You may want to look into those too.
