Japan had printed paper money in dollars for the occasion.

Actually Japan printed greenbacks as part of a plan to ruin the American economy, not as part of a plan to invade America. Japan's interest was Asia and South Pacific, but realized they could not do anything until the US fleet was destroyed. They had no interest in invading the US.

The Japanese printed money I saw 43 years ago was red, in no way resembled our green backs. IIRC the picture on the bill I saw was that of the Emperor.
