Thanks for the reply and great links. I'm a huge fan of Dr. B (just reread TIAA this weekend in fact). However some of my findings regarding Vanguard vs ETF returns differ from his.

Compare Vanguard's small cap value index fund, VSIIX, for example, to the three main small cap value index ETFs: IJS, IWN, and DSV:

As you can see, Vanguard doesn't always win (part of the difference is due to Vanguard's higher yield, but only part).

It's hard for me to make the case for 100% Vanguard these days (no foreign bond fund for example). The trend seems to be toward one great fund family...but a lot of great ETFs.
