It's very possible that your straight brother misinterpreted the 'overture.' For instance, your brother might have been asked something along the lines of: 'do you want to meet with some of my friends over at Lasso's?'--and incorrectly assumed it was a sexual proposition, rather than say an innocent request for him to participate in an investment club.
Of course, I wasn't there so I don't exactly know what transpired. But it does sound (given the description you offered of your brother) that he is easily hoodwinked by stereotypes--and may have misread the situation. I bet you if he had chosen to stay, he would have received his first lesson in beating the Dow.
