jeffbrig,

You wrote, Any tips or suggestions welcome. Just trying to figure out the best way to make this go away.

I'd send them a demand letter asking for proof of an obligation. Also if you have cancelled check images available online, I'd include a printed copy of the cancelled check.

Of course it usually takes some time for check images to become available, so if it's not yet there, tell them that you sent the center a check in April and it was cashed on May 6th and that you expect them to confirm that the debt was already paid and that it has not been reported on your credit report...

When you have clear evidence that you're in the right, it shouldn't hurt to include copies with the demand letter.

Also I assume that May 6th is less than 180 days since the service was performed? If so, you should be good as far as your credit report is concerned. A recent settlement between New York and the Big 3 requires them to not report any delinquent medical account until it is at least 6 months late.
