Who can say what the problem is. Sears could be conspiring to get late fees on uninformed customers (ala First USA) or they could have just installed a new system and have some bugs.

Personally, I long long ago solved all problems with the Sears Card. I stopped using it. I closed the account. My reasons are many, including
* very poor customers service
* an outragous interest fee if I did carry a balance
* no benifits (I get cash back on the primary card I use now)

I'm not a big fan of dishonest companies and the Sears credit card division has a real history. A few years back they got in trouble with the IRS. It seems they were writing off the debts of people who filed BK. Only problem is, they were actually collecting on those debts through special contracts with customers, basicly promising the customer if they keep paying and keep the Sears card off the BK list, Sears will never take the card away.
