JR,

Yep it takes years & big investment to set up gas liquidifaction(yep spelt my way) plants, that puts Australia in a strong position, as we have the infrastructure already up & running.
Unfortunately we have already fumbled the ball.

Until a few years ago, Victoria had a Gas & Fuel Corporation. It had a team developing this technology. They developed LNG cars, and a whole range of things. We were a world leader in the technology.

Then it all got privatised. Our energy corporations became miners, power stations and distributors, but R&D expenditure is petty. Now Malaysia and Indonesia lead us in the development side. We could wind up buying our LNG from Petronas.

Of course, we still have the resource, and that could still lead to export income in future.

Just another case of Aussies desperately trying to join the third world as raw materials suppliers.

Chris
