About 10 years ago, Disney had a TV cartoon called Tale Spin featuring the characters from The Jungle Book (minus Mowgli). Set in the South Pacific in the 1940s, Baloo was a small aircraft pilot/smuggler, Shera Kahn was a smooth talking, tailored suit wearing "legitimate" businessman, and King Louie, sounding a lot like Scatman Crothers, ran a nightclub a la Rick's Cafe Americain.

So why am I bringing this up? Well, because if you really need to see the characters from Jungle Book, Tale Spin is far superior to Jungle Book 2. Better animation, better dialogue, and you don't feel as if you wasted a chunk of your life. For one, it looks and sounds dated. Real dated. As if they made the remake immediately after the original and stuck it in a vault for a few decades. Even the short fries were unimpressed. Near the end, the Little Guy said, "Mom, the popcorn's gone. Can we go home now?"

The theater matinee seats cost $5 each, so that meant I blew $15 on this movie. If I had waited for the DVD, I'd probably have paid $14.99. My recommendation, wait. Really, wait.

Uhura :o)
