Just because a company goes belly up doesn't mean the investors that have accounts their lose all their investments. If you bought 100 share of GE stock through and it goes belly up u still have 100 share of GE. Now if you bought 100 shares of that is a different story. All acount holders will just have to transfer their asset to another broker like say Schwab which will be a pain but their investment are not lost. Hope the this helps
