I quit smoking ~35 years ago after 15 years of a pack per day. The secret is to write on a 3x5" card
THE REASON why. My wife, fortunately a non-smoker, was pregnant with our first child. That was the reason to stop the legacy that plagued my family. My parents both died of lung cancer. The worst was the 10 years before death when the breathing was so difficult, oxygen was needed most of the time.

First, I made the decision. Now every time I got the urge, I pulled out the card and read it again, and again. I had to rewrite several times over that first year.

The physical dependence was over in a couple weeks. The rest was in my mind. Took some work, discipline, but was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be.
Never touched tobacco since that day in 1986
