Much more promising one is BKR (Baker Hughes) partnership with APD. BKR is seeing this has $40 to $50 B TAM. There is so much investment going on in the Hydrogen as a fuel segment

Do you have any insight into WHY anybody thinks Hydrogen is a good idea?

I am under the impression that it is because of a mistake, that mistake being that because Hydrogen is the one Hydrocarbon that has no Carbon in it that this makes it clean. Sure, if you run hydrogen through a fuel cell you only get water out (oxidized hydrogen, H2O). But if you run Methane (CH3) through a fuel cell you only get CO2 and H20 out. Is CO2 dirty? No! C02 is clean as heck.

I think CO2 is mistakenly thought of as dirty. In fact, we may need to stop taking C out of the ground and putting it into the air. But there is no problem putting CO2 into the air when the C comes from the air.

That is, dig up Carbon that has been buried for millions of years and add it to the Carbon in the atmosphere: possibly bad. The last time the atmosphere had more carbon in it than now, the temperature of the earth was hotter and that may be bad.

But take carbon from the air, make fuel out of it, and put the carbon back in the air when using that fuel? That is fine. That is what is called sustainable.

* CO2 and H2O are "clean", they are not like the pollutants associated with Sulfur and nitrous oxides etc. So CH3 (methane), even other hydrocarbons (biodiesel) are potentially clean if burned properly and cleaned of Sulfur.

* Hydrogen is not automatically "cleaner" than CH3. If the Hydrogen is made, as most currently is, by "reforming" fossil CH3, then fossil CO2 goes into the air while the Hydrogen is being made. The fact that this is hidden from the end user is a magic trick: it is not real that there is no CO2 associated with Hydrogen.

If there is more to the argument for Hydrogen that it doesn't put fossil CO2 into the air unless we look at the CO2 it actually does put in the air, please let me know and/or send links.
