My husband and I are 6 months into running our own Excavating/Site work company (him full time doing the labor and me doing the books when not at my full time job). We currently have a contract with a developer working on a townhome community which includes us doing the driveways. My husband called me today to tell me the developer has decided he wants to change how the driveways are being done and wants another company to do them. My first thought is that he can't do that - we have a contract with him. But my fear is he will do it anyway and not pay us for that portion of the contract figuring we wouldn't be able to afford to take him to court for it. Which I don't think we could right now.

Does anyone have any advice on dealing with this person short of getting a lawyer involved? All advice is appreciated.
