Customers of legacy automakers are stuck in the "legacy hell" upon which the legacy business model is built. Tesla's New Paradigm is disrupting that "screw the customer business model"?

I have a 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, and the 2 new cars I had before that, all suffer from "legacy hell".
Once the customer buys the car, the customer is STUCK with whatever "came with that buy". Any "changes" are mandated by government "safety issues", or some legally identified manufacturers defect, or some such.
Toyota, specifically, doesn't upgrade software between model years. IF an upgrade is authorized, that upgrade requires a physical visit to the service department for a "recall". Furthermore, I have to personally keep up with "recalls".

This is the status quo for the legacy automakers' business model.

In this video, Lars (a bona fide Tesla Fanboi) uses Tesla safety features and testing to explain how Tesla is disrupting that legacy business model.

Not only is Tesla performing more and different crash tests than NHTSA requires, but also, if a "software fix" is identified, that fix goes out as an OTA update.
If a "hardware" fix is identified, Tesla makes that change quickly available to the production line, and new cars roll off the line, with the update.

And Tesla maintains such a rapid pace of innovation in safety, along with rapid innovation across many other components, legacy automakers, mired in their own bureaucratic morass, are being disrupted.

Software updates are possible for Tesla because Tesla is writing all its own software.
Apparently the legacy automakers have out sourced components and software, such that the automaker doesn't control the ability to update/upgrade software?
