Extended Systems Files Counterclaims Against Pumatech and Formally Denies Patent Infringement Claims

BOISE, Idaho, Jun 25, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Extended Systems Inc. (XTND), a leading provider of mobile data management and wireless connectivity software, announced today that it has formally filed a response to Pumatech's lawsuit.

In its Answer and Counterclaim, Extended Systems denied Pumatech's charges, raised a number of Affirmative Defenses to Pumatech's claims, and requested a declaration from the Court that Pumatech's synchronization software patents are invalid and not infringed.

"We do not believe that Extended Systems' synchronization products infringe on any valid claim of any of the seven patents Pumatech included in this lawsuit," said Steve Simpson, CEO and President of Extended Systems. "We are confident of our position and have counter-sued Pumatech for a declaratory judgment from the Court. Extended Systems remains firmly committed to developing and selling advanced synchronization products, and continuing to fully support our customers by offering innovative mobile and wireless solutions."

Extended Systems also believes that its support of applications written with Satellite Forms(TM) is not only permitted, but encouraged by Pumatech and that claims made by Pumatech that Extended Systems cannot refer to this support, or that Satellite Forms customers cannot use Extended Systems' server synchronization software with Satellite Forms are completely unfounded.
