Lem, I feel for you and people like you. You and countless other people are in my prayers whether you are a religous man or not. I don't want to see SS trashed or diminished. I have grandparents that have and have had cancer among other numerous amounts of other medical issues. One that was a vet of one of the WW's as well. However, none of them ever had a problem placing food on the table or getting medication. This wasn't because of the SS or Medicare. IT was because of the lessons they learned from the great depression. One that my Grandpa Walley made sure I heard over and over and over. Don't count on anyone else for your own financial well being and save, save, save. (He also had one about education, but that is an entirely different issue).

Now it sounds to me like maybe you haven't saved enough, whether it is because you thought SS would be enough or because of your medical problems cost more than you estimated. Either way, that is what SS and medicare were suppose to help suppliment. Problem is there is no easy way to fix the problem. Democrats and Republicans both spend amounts of money on themselves and other special interest groups just to get votes. I don't believe that more taxation is the way to fix it. Tax free day is sometime in May. The average person is taxed way too heavily already. It is a cash allocation problem that we have. And there is no polititian alive (Democrat or Republican) that will touch SS and Medicare before they have too. That takes more balls than any politian has. No matter what they do there will be political backlash. No one wants their entitlements taken away. Everyone wants more. This is not only about SS. It is about Welfare. It is about teacher salaries or any other government official's salary. We are not a socialist country, but each day taxes raise to increase these benefits we become more like one.

I agree that you shouldn't have to live like you currently are. The fool (although not available in your earlier years) is now trying to save countless others from going down this same path. However, there is no easy fix to your problem. I hope they someday will fix it. I hate to see anyone who has to worry about paying for the roof over the head, food, or medication. However, I also do not think some of the posts here on the board are all that well thought out. This ME, ME, ME thing,or it's the republicans fault we are all in this mess is IMHO completely wrong. I am a young, independant (I lean more right than left due to my political and taxation beliefs) but I don't think I am a ME, ME, ME personality. Nor do I want to shut off the taps on our seniors. I just want honesty in government, but power corrupts absolutly. I now am rambling.

Anyway, Lem, I wish you the best. Hope we can find a fix to your problem someday. You are in my prayers. Good luck!
