... now we just have to hope at not *too* bad of a price...

I guess this is a "shame on me", but I am amazed to say that DH had apparently not recognized that paying a bill late can have tremendous consequences. I pay all of our bills except for his one gasoline credit card. He likes paying that one himself for some reason, though he certainly doesn't mind if I open it or see it. Well, I noticed it sitting in his mailbox and remembered that it had come in some time ago. I asked if he'd paid it yet, and he said "no, it's not due until the 17th or 18th or something".

I just looked at him for a couple of seconds, in awe. For all of the stress that I thought *we* had been sharing about our debt and our bills, clearly, I had not communicated well enough with him about the urgency of paying bills on time. DH has been very good about not spending when he shouldn't and all of that stuff, and he pays this card off in full every month, so I guess I had naively assumed that we were on the same page about how all of this works.

I then had to point out, "today IS the 18th". He was like, "oh. Well, okay, I'll pay it tomorrow." He didn't seem too worried about it. So we sat down and talked about why this was, indeed, something to be worried about.

Hopefully being 2 days late on this payment won't end up being too much to worry about. We've called the biller and had a note placed on the file that payment was sent out today, since it was. He'll get smacked with a late fee, I assume, but maybe that'll further teach him not to be so nonchalant next time.
