Going to share a clip from an email I received last night from a gentleman I've known for a long time, and with whom I've had numerous conversations reflecting on the state of politics in America. He's been an avid supporter of Republican politics and staunch conservative most of his 74 years, hailing from the heart of the American midwest from back when "conservative" meant you were against communism and lazy hippies and believed in the institutional superiority of God, fiscal responsibility, and American democracy, in that order. So far as I'm aware he's still a registered Republican. My evolution from "lifelong Republican" to straight-ticket Democratic party voter might have preceded his by about 15 years, but in the end it's good to see an old dog staying nimble enough to know when it's time to change where they bury their bones.

Yes we did it here in the VA 10th district!! The very first seat to flip!!

I went to bed early. At the time, latest news was that the Democratic “Blue Wave” might not be as strong as expected. But I got up in the middle of the night to see the national results and the Democrats were projected to take control of the house by a large margin!!!! We did it!

My faith in the electorate is somewhat repaired. The thing I don’t get is why many rural areas still seem to be so red. The deficit has skyrocketed under Trump and the Republican held Congress and Senate. I thought Democrats were supposed to be the big spenders?!? The “tax cut” benefits went primarily to big business, while contributing to that debt increase. Republicans responded by saying Social Security and entitlement programs are the problem!?! Social Security didn’t change. The “tax cut” is what changed. Don’t the vast number of voters in red districts understand this? I hate to say this, but I can’t understand the stupidity of people who support Trump and the current Republican party.

Check out the finger-quotes around "tax cut". The man knows when he's being sold a bill of goods by a con artist.
