Take heart. It really can be done, and it gets easier as you go.

For me, tackling debt was like exercising or learning a difficult new skill. The first part is by far the most frustrating: you see a wide gap between where you are and where you want to be. The improvements you make seem small compared to your goal. Sometimes, it seems easier to revert to old habits and fall back.

But, the efforts you put in now make the biggest difference. For me, getting out of debt required a shift in mindset and habits. Putting away the cards, changing my spending habits and goals. Once you start moving in the right direction, pretty much only good things happen, which leads me to my next point...

Set small goals, and mark all your victories! It really is gratifying to get rid of those debts. I agree with the other posters here who have said to knock off a few of those smaller, high-rate debts. Getting rid of a creditor is a great feeling (and, looking at your post from back when, it looks like there are good candidates)!

What you will notice is that, as you continue on the path, the consistency and effort start to pay off in bigger and bigger ways. You'll start to get better rates, and better BT offers. Your creditors will start having to compete with each other. I can't describe how much fun in it making them squirm when you tell them you are getting rid of them b/c they didn't lower your rates when you asked the first time... and, of course, when the rates go down, it speeds the payoff process along.

So... chin up. Recognize that you are doing the heaviest lifting now, and feel proud of yourself for it!

Good luck!
