I'm a new member and here's my story.

I am now 55 years old, and sold a business 6 years ago. I made money, but not enough to retire on. I have no pension or benefits of any kind, and no retirement other than a small IRA which I funded over the years.

My first 2 years things went well. My investments grew, and I was getting close to the point where I could have converted to fixed income and been able to live. However, the market then crashed and my total portfolio is now 60% of what it was 3 years ago. I need to nurse it back!

The brunt of my portfolio is, and has been, with Merrill Lynch. Lately I have opened my own Ameritrade account. I am hoping THE FOOL can give me some wise investment advise. I need to get that 40% back!
