A favorite of mine, haven't read it in many years. Re-reading it, one of the things that strikes me about it that makes it so great is how well Golding writes the children - their characters, their relationships, their behavior. These kids seems utterly real, their actions completely believable, even when they descend into Hell. The bizarre, hallucinogenic passage where the "Lord of the Flies" (the decaying, staked pig's head) speaks to Simon is just amazing.A classic.
