< Can any of you tell me where I can find, on the internet, how many shares were bought or sold for any given stock. Many sites will give the total volume of shares, DLJ even shows the amounts of block trades but I would like to know if the transactions were initiated as buy or sell orders. Is there a way I tell this.? To put it another way I would like to know if the majority, is selling or buying.>

I do not know how to distinguish buying from selling since, for every buyer there must be a seller and vice versa. One way to get a clue, but only a clue, is to look at the Acc/Dist rating from IBD. A implies that there are more buyers than sellers; E implies that there are more sellers than buyers. But it is only an estimate, really.

Perhaps the specialist in a stock could know this; i.e., when someone wants to buy, does he sell from his inventory because there are no other sellers? When someone wants to sell, does he buy for his inventory because there are no other purchasers? He would know that, but I doubt anyone else would. Probably changes from moment to moment anyway.
