<I don't know what it is about politics, but it makes people who are otherwise very intelligent rationalize anything and everything, no matter how absurd and no matter how easy it is to find evidence that their understanding of reality is completely wrong. Confirmation bias is a really powerful force in human behavior!>

Amen to that! You have people defending children being taken from their parents and put in cages, appalling.


What's worse is that many people will vilify a policy when one political party does it and give a pass to their own political party when they do the same thing.

That's one advantage of being an independent. I don't feel any urge to defend policies that I don't agree with.
