What is the best (economical) way to purchase stock?
Do I need a broker or can I purchase first hand?

Hello Joanne and a Foolish Welcome to You!

Having done both, but not having done a study, I will enter as my opinion that DRIP investing is a bit cheaper. But when brokerage expenses can be held to one per cent or less of the sale they are both pretty economic methods. And I do do both.

Foolishly,
