<< is it possible for a non-working housewife to open an ira? (let me rephrase that to read: non-earned income housewife that works all day with 2 kids!!!)

i know about the agi caps and max yrly contributions and minimum distros (for a regular ira), but it seems like i've heard about non-working spouses not having to have earned income credit to open a roth from somewhere (i dont remember). or am i just dreaming! >>

As long as her husband has at least $4,000 in earned income for the year, husband and wife can each contribute $2,000 to an IRA for the year.

<< if not, when is the government going to stop penalizing the single income families, who think raising children without a baby sitter or day care, to instill their morals in their children, is more important than the infamous dual income of the majority of todays families? >>

Actually, the government gives a benefit to such families in the form of the joint tax rates. This is the "marriage benefit" that you never hear of when the noise level rises about the "marriage penalty."

<< also, when is the government going to get rid of social (socialist) security and let me invest my money for myself?! maybe when the Fool can convince everyone that 'We the People' are not as stupid as social democrats in government think we are! >>

Probably not in your lifetime. There are, and will probably continue to be, too many people who rely on Social Security benefits to chuck them off to fend for themselves.
