Many people don't think debt is all that bad, and they don't realize how quickly it can get out of control; they may not even realize what it costs them. I know people who have no idea what their interest rate, or for that matter, their balance are. There are people, including some on this board, who signed on for a mortgage without realizing how much the monthly payments would be, just letting a mortgage broker tell them how much mortgage they can handle (unfathomable to me!!). With credit cards, it's even easier to get sucked in because the minimum payments are so low--at least in the beginning.
