<<But I'm not comfortable with all this and I am stressed. How do you deal with watching people you love make dumb financial decisions? These are not my decisions, I can only sit and watch.>>

You are wise and smart. Your brother is dumb and foolish. Your father made gifts that perhaps he will regret, but refused to participate in the co signing disaster.

Sticking other family members with the bill for very expensive private college programs for four children that the parents can't afford is foolish. Perhaps the children should not be attending college at all, or should be joining the military or scoping out affordable programs like community colleges.

You haven't even suggested that one or more of these children is extraordinarily gifted and well prepared for some program of professional study that might justify such costs and sacrifice by other family members.

Sorry to say, but your brother sounds like a leech.
