Based on what we've seen the stock market is capable of in the last few months-it's clear that there're NO guarantees!! That said, IMO, nothing but NOTHING is going to beat the feeling of "security" of owning your own home free and clear. You can lose ALL your gains in the market in one day-but they can NEVER take your "paid off" home away from you. Good luck.
