<<Somewhere during the past month I read on this board that there is an agency to write or call that
can make it a requirement to get my written permission for someone to look at my credit report.
I've been searching the past posts and I can't find it. Did I dream this?? Does anyone know
anything about this? I appreciate your help! >>

You can't make it impossible for someone to look at your credit report. However, you can to something practically equivalent by contacting the three credit reporting agencies and asking for the following

1) remove your credit report from pre-screening. That will slow the avalanche of pre-approved credit cards in the mail.

2) Place your credit report file on fraud alert. This will make them call you whenever someone looks at your credit record. It is intended so that you can complain that you never ordered a credit card from Big Buck$ non-discount market, someone else must be impersonating you and do not approve it whatever you do. From what I understand, the credit reporting agencies will try to talk you out of this.

I don't have the contact info for the three credit reporting agencies, but it should be in this message board if you go back far enough.
