I listened to the Lockhart interview. I remember his statement with respect Roth IRAs: "We think the USA accounts are the way to go." I don't believe he justified why USAs are better that IRAs. Why did you not press him?

The USAs are another wealth distribution scheme. The government would match USA contributions with funds one should be able to keep for investing himself. These are not funds from a surplus because there is no government surplus: there is only a Social Security Trust Fund surplus (incidentally, a budget surplus belongs to the taxpayers anyway).

Just my 1 cent's worth (the other penny was extorted by the Federal government). No offense meant now.
