“SARS-CoV-2-specific T cells were detectable in antibody-seronegative family members and individuals with a history of asymptomatic or mild COVID-19... SARS-CoV-2-specific memory T cells will likely prove critical for long-term immune protection against COVID-19... Public immunity to COVID-19 is probably significantly higher than antibody tests have suggested".

If this is true then we are likely much closer to the holy grail of herd immunity than expected. Increasing numbers of positive tests are largely irrelevant if the outcomes are more benign, e.g. hospitalization and death being supplanted by mild symptoms or asymptomatic cases.

If the numbers start to bear witness to the changing landscape, expect the public to find some confidence and re-engage the consumer economy. The American public is in general confident and positive about the future despite the shocks that are inflicted upon us.
