I own a two family house for 15 years. I live in one unit and rent the other. The rented unit has a large gain due to depreciation. Would I be able to move into the rented unit for two years and rent the vacated unit allowing me to use my gains exclusion on the unit with the largest gain when I sell it? I know it would be subject to tax on depreciation taken after May 97.
