many times book value is expressed as a per share ratio (and you can get a fully converted book value to a fully diluted share count ratio). Sometimes is is useful to compare the book value/share to the price/share. I have always seen shareholder equity expressed as an absolute number (not a ratio). So it's assets - liabilities (but sometimes you have to take apart the financial statement to truly get at all the assets and liabilities).RWS
