Same thing happened to me again this morning. The spread was 60x70. So I bid 62 and didn't get a fill. Bumped it to 64. Again, no fill. Bumped to 66. No fill. Switched it to 'market' and got filled at just under 66. And, mind, you, I was bidding on some really, low-volume stuff.

For all the legitimate complaints that market observers like Mike Lewis make about HFT and how retail investors are being 'front-run', I certainly wouldn't want to go back to "the good old days" of floor traders handling orders, ticks being eights and quarter (rather than pennies or factions of them), plus a vig on top of the spread of at least $7 bucks.
