marksjr,

I was told that the kids could not start a Roth until they were the "age of majority" which in Illinois is 18. Is this right? Is there a minimum age required to start a Roth IRA (or any IRA), even when you have earned income? Thanks for helping to clear this up.

It is my understanding that as long as one has earned income, they can open a Roth IRA even if they are a minor. I did a quick Google search and it looks like there are not any age restrictions that I have seen.

You might want to ask the broker for verification on what you were told because it sounds like you received incorrect information.
