Matson.

I read the article, then went to the links and found the timeline and evidence the landowners used in the court case. I looked at the videos they took and photographs. The articles mention fracking lots, but I don't really see this as a fracking issue. Sure, if fracking wasn't available these wells may not hve been drilled, but even if these were conventional non-fracked wells, the same issues may have come about. The problems arose after the frac package left and the wells were on clean up and production, that is where the problems started. This oil company was breaking Texas rules on containment of produced water, condensate and vapors. Texas wrote them up for it, but apparently the penalties were not enough to change behavior. They were letting production water and condensate tanks leak and overflow onto land and to creeks. I think they got off easy with 3 million. One thing seemed strange is the landowners said before drilling their water was good, but after MTBE was in their well. I do not think MTBE is in frac fluids,I looked for it (#1634-04-040 listed in frac chemicals but don't see it. It is a compound put in gasoline and has caused all sorts of problems around old gas staitons and getting into wells from leaking tanks. Anyway, I don't think this case will make a big change in the amount of fracking going on, but hopefully it will get regulators to actually enforce the existing rules this oil company was flaunting. There was no need for the crap they were doing except their own greed.
