Brown & Co.'s sensible, self-reliant online investor from central casting looks like one of those who might nimbly trade such rallies when she's not taking the plunge in her yellow wetsuit.

On a market capitalization basis, she can now buy all 17 stocks in the SOX, including Intel, Motorola, Texas Instruments and other great names, for about US$260-billion after their big rally. For roughly US$260-billion, she could buy, say, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and have change left over for about half the gold stock market cap in all the world.

At this point and on a trading basis, she should take Wal-Mart and the golds over the SOX.
