Another good reason to fund the IRA is that you can dabble in things like Limited Partnerships and not have to figure out how to do the taxes on them.

Be very careful. There is a tax concept called "Unrelated Business Taxable Income" (UBTI) that might cause partnership income inside your IRA to be immediately taxable. It's the primary reason why my wife and I sold our KMP (Kinder Morgan Energy Partners) partnership units in 2003 for KMR (Kinder Morgan Management) shares, instead.
