Hi Ira,

The IRS office where I live apparently was not told to stop, so they were still offering that service (hand stamping dates on returns and copies) well after 1/1/04. I'm hoping they continue because it really is as easy for me to go there as to the post office.

But that surely can't top ibnana's report of IRS reps coming to the supermarket! Wow. I think I'll move to Georgia... :-)

Meanwhile, thanks for the tip about the certificate of mailing. I guess that everything above 37 cents (or whatever) involves a sort of risk/reward analysis, when you come down to it. And I assume that the percentage of nondelivered returns is pretty low when the total volume is considered. Perhaps you or somebody knows the actual numbers...
