I see this a lot at the local level. Municipal elections only attract about 1/4 of the voters that turn out during a Presidential election. Often times municipal elections have more of a direct impact on you than a residential election. Many people don't even know who the Selectmen are in our town, and we're not unique in that regard.


But, I would fully expect that the lower the turnout for an election, the more representative it is of actual informed voters.

The least informed electorate by far is Presidential. They know a couple of talking points from commercials and being told to vote by their favorite reality show Diva, but little else.

More voters is not a recipe for better government.
