...they aren't getting code from NSA to do something Android didn't do before; they are getting code from NSA to do something Android has done from day one - and do it *better*.

OK, Warrl. You've convinced me that Google hasn't sold us out to the snoops by vetting the NSA's improvements to Android. OTOH, I will always be suspicious of government agencies that operate effectively without oversight, restraint or accountability. The NSA and IRS are just a couple that come to mind.

If you wonder why I think the way I do, the following quotes from one of my heroes may explain:

"Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants..."

"The most important political office is that of the private citizen."

"We must make our choice. We may have democracy, or we may have wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both."

“Experience teaches us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government's purposes are beneficent.”

“If we desire respect for the law, we must first make the law respectable.”

“Our government ... teaches the whole people by its example. If the government becomes the lawbreaker, it breeds contempt for law; it invites every man to become a law unto himself; it invites anarchy.”
