This near mishap comes on the back of an alarming leak in the International Space Station for which a root cause has not yet been determined. The positive take-away is that the emergency escape system, something both the US and Russia spend millions developing in the hope they are never used, worked.

Who notes Russia has had Soyuz launch failures with unmanned cargo and satellite launch vehicles, but this is the first aborted ascent of a crewed Soyuz over 40 years...
