Some very interesting observations from the long long run performance of stocks, bonds and cash in UK and USA, by Bloomberg opinion writer John Authers.

- U.S. small caps have utterly clobbered larger companies.
- Reinvesting dividends is good for you.
- Stocks beat bonds, usually, but you may have to wait longer than you thought. (UK equities have under performed gilts and bonds over the last 20 years).
- Inflation su**s - There was no refuge from inflation in the 1970s. Equities were better than bonds but still didn’t provide the kind of returns that those trying to save for retirement would have needed.
