When asked to defend his company against the frequently heard accusation that Microsoft's practice is to mimic innovative technologies rather than pioneering new developments themselves, Gates strenuously denied that this was true.

When asked to name Microsoft's three most important
innovations, he looked back to the early 1980s, and said it was Microsoft's idea to develop software according to common industry standards, giving rise to an independent software industry free of computer hardware giants such as IBM.

Secondly, he said Windows NT, the company's corporate
computer operating system, was the first commercial software system developed from scratch.

Pointing to current efforts, he highlighted the effort to integrate high-volume transaction capabilities into Windows NT, delivering the power to handle millions of simultaneous transactions to small and medium-sized businesses, he said.

Wow! These products are incredible! It's good that Microsoft does indeed have original products that people credit them for. My favorite product to use from the above list is "the effort to integrate high-volume transaction capabilities". I think that my family enjoys using the MS product "idea to develop software according to common industry standards". It gives them a rise.
