Yea, I know the Fool makes mistakes - but they are a heck of alot better at this stuff than I am, and I pick and choose and try to watch the overall risk.

Actually Ive only tried a spread once. Im still not comfortable with it because I dont see it fitting with my strategies, I dont see why I shoudl use it.

Mainly what Ive fallen into is writing the puts and then if the stock is put to me, writing covered calls. After reading your reply it appears my biggest threat is being put a stock that tanks and does not redeem itself in a reasonable amount of time, if ever.
