On Dec 4 1956 Johnny Cash went to Sun Studio to watch Carl Perkins recording. Sam Phillips hired Jerry Lee Lewis to give the Perkins tapes a fuller sound. Elvis showed up and a pretty cool jam session ensued.

Sam kept the tape rolling and you can buy various editions of the sessions for CD prices.

Last night I paid 82.50 (x 2) to see the musical.

While the musician/actors were competent, in retrospect my money would have been better spent, imho, on the CD's. DW said the stage sound should have been louder, and felt the production managed to take the rock out of rock and roll.

The real session is well documented on wiki, and some of the tape is on YouTube. Sounded like Elvis, Johnny, Jerry Lee and Carl had a great time.
