Hello. I'm burdoned with $50K in CC debt that I'm struggling to pay off. Over the last few months I've been trying to get my financial life in order so I can someday become debt free.

As part of this process, I must come up with a balanced monthly household budget. My problem is that no matter how I slice and dice up the budget, I can't come up with enough to pay all my debts.

It occurred to me that perhaps some of my numbers are off base. I would like some feedback on how others balance their monthly budget.

How much does the average family spend on groceries every month? I budget $800-$900 a month for a family of three adults plus 3 cats. This includes all meals (occasional dinner out), bathroom supplies, cleaning supplies, etc. Basically "consumibles" that are purchased at the grocery store.

Is this out of line? My wife does all the shopping and we certainly don't eat like kings. She cooks 80% of the meals, I cook the other %20.

When I was single years ago I use to budget $500 a month for all of this, so $800 does not seem out of line.
