More snippets from letters responding to that article:

This article gave me a sad.
nice moment in "The Wire" fifth season where a reporter uses "evacuated the people from a burning building" and an editor said, "evacuating people means giving them enemas, you only evacuate buildings!"
It first started for me with Nixon's "at this point in time." What else would it be - at this point in space?
But remember e.e. cummings:

anyone lived in a pretty how town
(with up so floating many bells down)
spring summer autumn winter
he sang his didn't he danced his did

Women and men(both little and small)
cared for anyone not at all
they sowed their isn't they reaped their same
sun moon stars rain

children guessed(but only a few
and down they forgot as up they grew
This phenomenon is doubleplus ungood.
I'll take"nounification" over "verbification" any day. As a teacher, I'm going to scream if I hear the phrase "bathrooming the kids" as in "We need to bathroom the kids before we take them on the field trip", one more time.
[ED: Shouldn't that be "We need to bathroom the kids before we field trip them"?!]
