I have a couple of other sites for PipneyJane's FAQ.

This is for Afghan Stitch or Tunisian Crochet. It's essentially a very simple stitch, and for that reason even a total klutz like myself can manage it very easily. But there are a lot of variations on the stitch, and you can also cross-stitch on it, which makes for very unusual designs. This site includes a tutorial on how to work the variations, which is why I thought it would be a help to others.

This next one is a counted cross-stitch site that I'm fond of. I know that some people prefer other designers, and I'm hoping that some of them might be inspired to offer links to their own preferred sites.
